During our recent visit to Mürren, we were lucky enough to stay at the Eiger Hotel which is a personally run family business in the car-free village.
We already started to learn about the hotel when we visited the James Bond experience because the Tächi bar was apparently frequented by the stars, including Diana Rigg, so we were really excited to see it for ourselves. We arrived towards the end of the afternoon and were greeted warmly at reception before being taken to our suite. The building is large but somehow maintains a wonderfully warm and cosy feel. Our suite was tastefully decorated and huge, with two good sized bedrooms, two bathrooms and a nice living area with kitchenette and dining table. The children were so excited, they were soon running from room to room staking their claims on the beds and hurrying to unpack their treasures. The views from all of the windows were amazing and enabled us to admire the mountain scenery surrounding us to full advantage.

The hotel is well equipped and boasts a swimming pool and plenty of places for children to play and shop on site, plus a spa which has a sauna, gym and jacuzzi.
The famous bar is exactly the kind of cosy place you want to install yourself for a drink after a day exploring and we had to drag ourselves away from the snug spot by the fire.
Jean set off for a walk with Jude while Alba and I relaxed with a cup of tea and Elio had a nap. Alba was keen to have a bath and she was soon bundled up in a fluffy towel watching Peppa Pig. We had dinner plans outside the hotel that evening and our cosy room was such a welcome sight after our chilly walk back. We all slept really well and even Elio went down without a murmur. The next morning we headed downstairs to breakfast and were amazed at the amount of food on offer! We’ve stayed in a lot of hotels but rarely have we seen such a huge choice for breakfast. Alba and Jude ploughed their way through fruit, cereal and pancakes washed down with hot chocolate, while Jean and I tried the hot breakfast and patisseries. We usually bring something special for Elio but he was also happy to try some of the yogurts from the buffet.
The dining room is really cosy and a nice way to start the day. It was raining throughout the morning and this emphasised the cocooning feeling of the hotel, making it difficult for us to muster the energy to leave :-). We can’t fault this place, it was so welcoming for families and our suite provided everything we needed for an extremely comfortable stay.
