We couldn’t have asked for a better place to salve our weary souls at the end of last week.

We arrived at the magnificent Beau Rivage hotel in Geneva on Friday afternoon and spent a good few minutes absorbing the splendour of our surroundings before we made it to the reception.

The hotel had a gorgeous Easter display in the centre of the foyer with metallic eggs and flowers so the children were immediately in love with the place...little did they know this was only the start! Discover our video here!

The reception staff were extremely friendly and welcoming to our tribe and we were soon standing outside the suite we had been given.

I wish we had recorded the children’s first impressions as we entered the bedroom which was enormous, sumptuous and oozed luxury and comfort. However the interconnected children’s room was the real star of the show as it had been decorated with lots of brightly coloured helium balloons, with thoughtfully customised colouring books and crayons for each child, jars of sweets, meringues, fruit and a tray of wonderful goodies including cookies, marshmallows, madeleines and a specially prepared compote for Elio along with some soft biscuits he could eat easily. We were really touched by this incredible treat and the fact that Elio had been considered too made our hearts melt.

The children were literally squealing with delight as they leapt around the room taking in all the amazing surprises it had in store. They were so busy leaping that they almost didn’t notice the presents for each of them on the table but they soon ripped into those and started building their Playmobil (perfectly chosen btw @Beau Rivage).

We didn’t have a hope of pulling them away from all of this so Jean and I sat on the balcony with a drink while the children played and we decided to order room service for dinner so that they could get stuck into their toys.

The room service was incredible with generous portions and lots of extra bits and pieces from the restaurant Le Bar. Jean and I took a mix of finger food and the children had some delicious chicken nuggets and chips. We were pretty exhausted so we all went to bed early and slept soundly in our enormous bed.

The next morning we had breakfast in our room and were blown away by the choice and the quantity of food. Jean and I chose eggs Benedict while the children were excited to try the pancakes and we also took some fruit, yoghurts for Elio, delicious juices, charcuteries, cheese and viennoiseries. It was all delicious!

Jean had booked me a massage so I headed off for that while he took the children out for a walk. My massage therapist was Houda and it was easily one of the best massages I have ever had. I was feeling a bit raw after all my hospital visits and very stressed so Houda customised the massage to concentre on the areas I needed it the most using delicious smelling products. I came out feeling lighter and more refreshed than I have in weeks. Houda was really lovely and took such great care of me, I was really overwhelmed by her kindness and gentleness.

We had a big dinner planned so lunch was some light snacks in the room. I tried a delicious soup and Jean took a flavour packed salad. In the afternoon Jeans parents and aunt and uncle were joining us for a belated birthday celebration for his mums 60th birthday and they were also staying in the hotel so that we could enjoy some time together. When they arrived we went for a walk in Geneva to enjoy the sunshine. The hotel is perfectly located on the shores of the lake and just a few minutes walk to the centre of town so it’s really practical for visiting the city, exploring it's parks or indulging in some shopping.

Next we went back to the hotel to get changed for dinner. Since we were quite a large group (9 including the children), the hotel had kindly organised for us to have a private room (Salon de Windsor) for dinner which was a huge advantage with the children as Alba was soon asleep on the sofa and Elio was very agitated and shouted quite a lot which would have been uncomfortable with other diners around us. We had a lovely meal and it was so wonderful to be able to sit around a table with people we love which is something we haven’t been able to do for a very long time. Jean's mum kindly took the children to bed so that the rest of us could enjoy a nightcap in the stylish bar of the hotel before turning in for the night.

After another good nights sleep we were ready for breakfast which this time we took altogether in the same private room where we had eaten the night before. It was a lovely way to start the day and once again we were treated to generous helpings of delicious food so we were well set up for the day. The service was impeccable and Brian who looked after us for dinner and breakfast deserves a special mention for his attentive and considerate service.

All too soon it was time to pack our cases and check out. It’s hard to fully describe how welcome this little break was after such a difficult few days. The experience of feeling well looked after, well fed and pampered was such a tonic after a week of stress and worry. It really couldn’t have come at a better time. Nothing was too much trouble and the children were treated like royalty and are already asking when we can go back.

Thank you to all the staff for their fabulous attention and enabling this weary tribe to recharge our batteries in the splendour of such an iconic landmark on the map of Geneva. We won’t forget it!
