We were in Zurich on Friday and decided to discover the Zoo and the 340 animal species in near-natural habitats. EXPLORE THE WORLD OF ANIMALS !
We were in Zurich on Friday for a medical appointment for Elio so we decided to leave extra early to squeeze in a trip to the zoo while we were there.
There is ample paid parking just opposite the entrance to the zoo and tickets cost chf 26 per adult and free for children under 6.
The zoo in Zurich must be one of the largest we have come across and we found we didn’t have time to see everything we would have liked. However we did get to visit the elephant enclosure which is impressive as you have the impression of being very close to the animals and there are a number of vantage points around the enclosure including a viewing area where you can see them under water in their swimming pool. We were out of luck today and no swimming when we were there.
My favourite part was watching the monkeys and we were happy to have seen some "dschelada" being fed outside. It was fascinating watching them scrambling over each other to grab the food and there was lots of fluffy babies leaping about too which we all enjoyed.
We were fortunate enough to see the tiger strut past us and we were all awed by his size and power and Jean hastily backed away from the grill when he received a nice growl in his ear.
The zoo is well laid out with lots of places to sit, buy a snack and plenty of toilets dotted around. Last time we went it was very hot and found it was a struggle in the heat as there wasn’t much shade.
It’s a nice place and we were really impressed with the emphasis placed on helping endangered species and educating visitors.
Well worth a visit if you are in the Zurich area.
